Day 58 of 100 Days Sunday July 19th
Wow what an exciting week I had! Meeting new sorority sisters, catching up with old ones, and enjoying my favorite ones, all while providing service. So this entire week of posting will be a recap of my week in North Caroline. Starting with today's post to say Congrats to all the newly elected officers of my sorority. I had the pleasure of meeting, and greeting each and every one of them. I will make them and our organization proud as we launch new programs of service to our communities. We will partner with new organizations and continue partnership with others. My organization gives over 1 million hours and dollars in the community and international. We are keeping the vision alive that our founders believed so strongly that we could and would do! I will continue to do my part in service and sisterhood!

June 20th 2014
Wow, I am so behind with posting, but trust me when I say I have had all things happy everyday!
This weekend was no exception! I am a mentor, of course by nature but especially to a wonderful group of young ladies through my sorority. So my second mentee from UT joined the wives club this weekend, and I was on deck to share in this wonderful union. I have never stayed to the end of a wedding to actually see the bride and groom off, but I had such a great time, I shut it down!
So of course a union of two young people always makes you think about marriage and what it all means. Keith Sweat song "Make it Last Forever" always comes to my mind. Because isn't that the wish of all newlyweds, they expect it to last forever! So if that's the wish why is the divorce rate so high. I have a few theory's, but I would be writing forever and I just don't have time for that. But I will share the biggest problem I see and its just one word, "WORK"!
Marriage is hard work, and you hear the phrase all the time. You have to put in the same amount of work that it took to get her or him, to keep him or her! Just cause you have sealed the deal, and you are no longer getting the milk for free, "LOL I crack myself up!", does not mean you stop working at it!
You know the weekly chats about what to do this weekend, the weekly cooking in the kitchen together, the weekly grocery shopping together etc...believe it or not those things will still matter. You know why because it was quality time with one another! As life gets busier, and your busy planning your goals and working hard to achieve them, then kids come, or taking care of family members, those quiet days when it was just you two are far and in between.
I remember when I first dated my husband, we didn't have a washer or dryer so our weekend outing was the laundromat, yep the washateria! But at that time, we didn't care that we were sitting in a hot ass room for over four hours, we were just happy to be together. Grinning and smiling at one another while we folded clothes, and talking about anything that came to mind! Man that was the good times!
So I ended this now, cause I could go on forever! But its work to keep a marriage together and although our lives get busier with time, it might not be a bad idea to put an out order sign on the laundry room and head down to the laundromat for some quality time with your loved one! I'm just saying, do what it takes to "Make It Last Forever"!

Day 7-Leadership
People often want leadership, but I often wonder why. Is it the money, is it because you want to tell people what to do, or is it the fame that comes with the role. Me I often think of leadership as an opportunity to change, do things better or simply to offer my services. Yep I have only held a real paying leadership role once in my 30s. I give of my best time and talents for free. I volunteer a lot and they usually get the best out of me. Why I don't know, I'm just a giver, I don't expect anything in return and I just give. So my happy today is I thank God for giving me an open heart, for giving me talents that I can share with the world for free. My next role is Chairmen of Awards, this role will last till about next year in April. It will be fun and exciting, but also tough and it will take a lot of my time. I am looking forward to the new challenge and can't wait to share my gifts with others.

Day 6- Love yourself
You know growing up, I never saw my grandmother or any of the females in my family pamper themselves. Grannie pressed her own hair in the kitchen over the stove, she clipped and trimmed her own nails and hair color what was that? I am sure a lot of it had to do with limited resources, and raising six kids. I can almost believe it wasn't cause she didn't want to allow someone else to pamper her. So today my happiness comes from learning to appreciate myself enough to make sure I pencil in my me time, because in the words of Shekinah I work hard Bitch!

Day 5-Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou, is the one reason I love to read. Having to read "To Kill a Mockingbird as a class assignment, begin my desire to read everything by this woman. Then my senior year in high school as a contestant in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Fashionetta Pageant a young lady performed a piece that repeated the words "Phenomenal Women", I learned once again it was written by Maya Angelou. It wasn't till I was in my twenties, that I could afford to purchase every single book she had written. In my thirties I had an opportunity to hear her speak in Austin, Texas. Now a member of the first Greek Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, we share a sisterhood like no other. I related to Soror Angelou, she was raised by her grandmother, had child at a young age, loved to travel, and had a desire to do good works on earth and she was kind to all. Today we celebrate the loss of an amazing, phenomenal women, who expected no more from society but fairness and justice. She wanted women to know "we are great", to hold our head high and respect ourselves. I am happy and appreciative that she was able to share her talents with the world, she was willing to put her thoughts in print that we may always be able to reference, when needed. Thank you God for blessing such a phenomenal women and sharing her with us. Soror Maya you will be missed dearly, but your words will remain in our thoughts and hearts for a lifetime.

Day 4 -Sitting Still
Today's happiness comes from just sitting around. Yes that's my stripped house dress, that both my favorite boys are leaning on me as we just chill and watch TV. What's so wonderful about this moment is the peace it brings as I look down at them both and know they are happy and safe right here with me at this moment. Happiness is not always about what you do, where you go, or what you buy. It can be the joy from sitting still. Live in the Moment!

Day 2 -Memorial Day
Memorial Day, a day off is of course the first thing that comes to mind for some, then the BBQ's and no school for others. Yes, there is this small amount of people that still believe Memorial Day is a day of remembrances. I remember when I first met my husband we would drive to the country and put flowers on his mothers grave, as we made that drive we often talked about our own deaths and how we wanted to be buried next to one another. Today I reflect on how to cherish those I love that are still living, so I have no regrets when their gone. Happy to be among the living, and those who I love dearly are still here with me as well.
